This Is The End

Dir. Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg
IMDb 7.7/10 – Rotten Tomatoes 84%

The story begins with the arrival of Jay Baruchel touching down in LA to stay with his longtime friend Seth Rogen. Seth wants Jay to attend James Franco’s party with him and connect with his new buddies; after detesting the idea, Jay approves. This party is full of all the great actors, comedians, and Rihanna all together in Franco’s extravagant house. Abruptly a massive  9.7 earthquake strikes following blue lights protruding through the dark clouds that rest above Los Angeles; sucking up random bystanders. After that a sinkhole forces James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, and Craig Robinson to run for in Franco’s house. What awaits them the following morning inside and outside takes them down a bumping road of trust, fear, biblical predictions and a onslaught of cracking jokes on each other.

The cast is biggest aspect of this film! A star studded list cf funny people that could not have wrong, and what not better than to have them all acting as themselves! Aside from the main group of friends we have cameos and roles (too much to name but here’s some) from a wild Michael Cera to Kevin Hart, Jason Segal, Emma Watson, Aziz Ansari, Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, and a hilarious main performance from Danny McBride. To add onto the fact they are all playing themselves placed into a apocalyptic situation, the acknowledgement of past movies and their life just makes it that much more funnier. “Seth, that’s some of the best acting I’ve seen you do in the past 10 years. Where the fuck was that in Green Hornet?” It is hard to choose who had the best role.. I think that may come up to personal choice with many, and for me I would say Jonah Hill. The compassion he showed towards Jay to feel welcomed was uncomfortably funny, and his antics with Franco’s gun was hilarious.

The story line is incredibly original with connections and slight spoofs to former movies; such as pineapple express, The Exorcist, and Rosemary’s Baby. The movie is packed with a ton of crude humor that will have the audience wiping the tears away from their eyes.  So if that isn’t your thing you may not find it fully funny but no doubt still enjoyable. While being vastly original there is some things that one can see coming, however there is so much more stuff that keeps happening one will  lose out on these predictions…like Danny’s sex slave… ;D

Overall it was a very fun film not designed to make the audience think too much, but almost like they wanted to see how far everyone was willing to go to give the audience some grand laughs. I believe it will have a great re-watching value to it as well. To anyone that enjoyed, Pineapple Express, Superbad, and/or Hot Tub Time Machine you will love this movie! It may not be for everyone but I think that shouldn’t stop you from checking this out.

“THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU” .. “Does it? Does it compel me Jay?”
